Microscopic Simulation of Airport Cities

Landside traffic around airports is shaped by a complex interplay of multiple traffic flows, numerous processes and interactions taking place behind the scenes. For that reason, microscopic simulation techniques come into action. Corresponding tools must be able to simulate administrative, operational und logistic processes. Our tool optihubs which is embedded within these processes is capable to simulate and assess small measures like additional entry gates for logistics or an altered access to a parking lot up to new TOS systems, corresponding rules and traffic guidance systems. Different infrastructure scenarios can be visualized and compared based on real parameters for transport flows, volumes and routines. At latest optihubs was successfully applied for the development of the new Austrian Federal Railway Freight Terminal in Wels in Upper Austria.
